Sport
Sport has always been an important aspect of school life here in Scoil Mhuire.
We are delighted to provide the opportunity for our students to engage in a wide range of sports and other activities.
We are represented by boys and girls teams in Gaelic football, hurling and camogie. These teams contest, and have enjoyed successes, in the annual Cumann na mBunscoil leagues and Mini-Sevens competitions. The pupils also enjoy taking part in our very own ‘Mini Sam’s’ lunchtime league that takes place in the last term every year.
Soccer is a very popular lunch time sport within the school. Boys and girls teams also participate in the FAI annual 5 a-side schools competition. Athletics training begins in the second term preparing pupils for the Cross Country running competition.
Children are given the opportunity to sample a huge variety of sports and activities during their time in Scoil Mhuire.
Some of these activities include:
- Cross country running
- Basketball
- Tag Rugby
- Tug-O-War
- Baseball
- Badminton
- Volleyball
- Dancing
- Swimming
- Active Schools programme
The school holds an Active Week in the third term of each year to further promote physical activity. A variety of activities are organised across the week concluding with a fun-filled sports day for the entire school. Our philosophy for Physical Education is one of participation and enjoyment.
